The 67-year-old actor, best known for playing Grandad on the hit sitcom, has shared that he’s “over the moon” after receiving the all-clear from cancer.
Dermot had been worried in recent weeks about a possible relapse after noticing swelling in his neck, which led him to withdraw from filming the latest series of All Round To Mrs Brown alongside his longtime friend Brendan O’Carroll.
Thankfully, tests have confirmed that the swelling was not cancer-related, bringing relief to both Dermot and his fans.
The actor was previously rushed to hospital over Christmas while battling the illness, so it’s heartening to hear he’s now on the mend.

After a worrying few months, the beloved actor — best known as Grandad on the hit comedy — has received the all-clear from cancer.
Dermot’s latest scan had been delayed due to the Covid-19 pandemic, but doctors finally saw him last week and confirmed the fantastic news that he is cancer-free.
“I’m over the moon — it’s such a load off my mind,” he told The Irish Sun.
“I had been living in a nightmare with a swollen neck, thinking, ‘is the cancer back?’ Now I can go back and live my life.”
The 67-year-old, affectionately known to friends as Bugsy, fell ill over Christmas and was rushed to hospital after feeling unwell. Doctors fitted him with a feeding tube, and his wife Chickie shared that he was left “exhausted” from the intensive treatment.
At the time, she said:
“What we didn’t want to happen, happened. Dermo has been hospitalised to rehydrate him and be put on a feeding tube.
Two more chemo sessions left and eight radiotherapy sessions. It’s been a tough road for him. Let’s all send him our love to get him over the finish line.”
Thankfully, Dermot’s determination and treatment have paid off, and he’s now recovering well. Fans and colleagues alike are delighted to see him back on his feet after such a difficult time.
Despite his uplifting news, it has still been a period of sadness for some of his Mrs Brown’s Boys co-stars — but Dermot’s recovery brings a welcome ray of hope.
